Kingswood College, Kandy takes pride in being the first school to introduce the Oval shaped ball game to the schools in the country. Starting the game in the 19th century, 1893 to be precise, rugby was introduced to the school by L.E Blaze, who is a product of Trinity College and also the founder of the Kingswood College. They played their first game against the Trinitians in 1906, ending the game in a 6-all draw. However, Kingswood had to give up the game a few years later, because of a player dying on the field. Nevertheless, the game was reintroduced to the school in 1967 with an Under 17 team. Kingswood College has the honour of producing the one of the best Fly Halves Sri Lanka has seen in Fazil Marija.
